Eight-year-old author Purpose Copeland to hold a book signing event

(Biloxi, MS) – Eight-year-old Mississippi Gulf Coast author Purpose Copeland will hold a book signing on Saturday, Jan. 30 as part of the grand opening of the new Black Authors Rock Bookstore. The young writer will sign copies of her debut children’s book, “Manners My Grandma Taught Me.”

The signing is will be part of the grand opening at the Keesler Base Exchange from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The new bookstore is owned and operated by Purpose’s mother, Dr. LaTracey Drux.

Drux said her daughter’s book resulted from the young writer struggling to embrace reading aloud.

“I encouraged her to write as a part of teaching her to love reading and books,” Drux said. “So, she decided she wanted to write her own children’s book.

The book features heartwarming lessons about manners, faith, self-love, kindness and respect that were handed down to the young writer from her grandmother.

Along with Purpose’s book, Drux said the new Black Authors Rock Bookstore will also include publications written by local African-American authors as well as others from around the globe. Along with book signings, Drux said the store will also host regular book readings.

“I’m elated to bring this labor of love to fruition,” Drux said. “I hope that this bookstore will serve as an inspiration to those who have a unique story to tell but often struggle to break through traditional publishing barriers in connecting with readers. We hope everyone embraces this literary endeavor of hope and perseverance.”
